Here are a few slides from the powerpoint presentation I created for our steel precedent study - Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's classic tower, the Seagram Building. The original file is nearly 6 MB, so these are reduced resolution. My model was rendered in 3D Studio Max.

We were tasked with creating a "furniture-object" for our warm-up project. Some of the criteria included an assumed 10' x 30' module, and a maximum of using half of that area (150 sq.ft.) - misleading information considering the critics' reaction to anything over the size of a standard cubicle as being "too large a concept."

Oh well. Other requirements were demountability and reconfigurability, speaking to the performative nature of this furniture-object, which is presumably intended for mass-production. The site includes Southern and/or Northern exposure, hence my use of a dovetail jointed eggcrate solar screen wall. The storage space and desk are a little Ikea, but that can be remedied if this project is given further time and consideration. The bed and library shelves extend from the wall more or less as a sleeping shelf and pergola, respectively. The benches are modular, so the entire project may be reconfigured or shortened as desired, with the possibility of adding a corner piece to the eggcrate wall if further exposure is a site change anticipated.
